چکیده

The near-surface distribution of young-of-the-year perch was observed with a towed upward beaming echosounder system (SIMRAD EK60 with a circular 7◦ transducer). Perch aggregated densely in the epilimnion during daytime and dispersed evenly below the surface at night. Shoaling commenced in late June when perchmetamorphosed from the larval to juvenile stage. Average shoal widthwas 6.6m and average shoal height was 2.35m in July, when perch were observed for the last time in the pelagic zone of Lake Constance. Upward echosounding revealed the presence and near-surface distribution of pelagic juvenile perch and therefore this method can be used as a complementary survey tool to get more precise information about the distribution, behaviour and abundance of near-surface fish.

Competition for food between perch (Perca fluviatilis L.) and invasive ruffe (Gymnocephalus cernuus (L.)) in re-oligotrophic Lake Constance

The effect of group size on routine metabolic rate (RMR) and activity of the two shoaling percids Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis) and ruffe (Gymnocephalus cernuus) was studied using twin flow intermittent respirometry and time-lapse video techniques. In both species, we found a clear group effect. In isolated fish, oxygen consumption was up to two times as high as in groups of eight fish, wi...

Species richness and diversity of the parasites of two predatory fish species - perch (Perca fluviatilis Linnaeus, 1758) and zander (Sander lucioperca Linnaeus, 1758) from the Pomeranian Bay.

Pomeranian Bay as an ecotone is a transition zone between two different biocenoses, which is characterized by an increase in biodiversity and species density. Therefore, Pomeranian Bay is a destination of finding and reproductive migrations of fish from the rivers entered the area. The aim of the study was to compare parasitic fauna of two predatory fish species from the Pomeranian Bay, collect...

Occurrence of parasitic ciliates (Protozoa) on perch (Perca fluviatilis) in Lake Vlasinsko

In the sample of 83 specimens of the perch (Perca fluviatilis L., 1758), caught on eight different sampling sites at the Vlasinsko Lake reservoir, in April–October 1993, 25 infested specimens were found. They were infested with the following species of parasitic ciliates: Trichodinella epizootica, Apiosoma robustum, Apiosoma piscicolum ssp. perci, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Chilodonella cypr...

Express your personality or go along with the group: what determines the behaviour of shoaling perch?

Behavioural syndromes, defined as correlated behaviours in different contexts, have been studied across species and taxa including humans as part of a personality concept. While most studies have focused on solitary individuals, less is known on how shoaling fish compromise between own personality and group behaviour. Risk-taking behaviour in 1-year-old perch (Perca fluviatilis) was observed to...
